Where are you located? Fairborn, OH. *piano lessons are held at my home. For an address lesson sign ups are required.
Do you do group lessons? I offer optional piano classes in the summer for existing students to play quartets together. We play musical games and occasionally watch musicals. It is great fun! The rest of the year all lessons are private.
Do you provide the lesson materials? I select the curriculum for each student based on their age, learning style, and prior experience. I lend out all materials initially. Any cost associated with learning materials (books, flashcards, etc.) will be covered by the students or their parent(s) after two weeks of lessons have taken place. Prior to that no materials need to be purchased by the parent or guardian.
Do you give discounts for multiple children? For three or more children!
How much practice time is required? As much as you can! The quality and amount spent practicing will be evident in your progress. Those that practice one or two days a week will grow at a slower rate than those who practice four-six days a week. The brain needs repetition! A few minuets each day is better than an hour one day a week. I discuss practice times with each student, after learning about what their individual goals are. Normally, good practice times range from 15-45 minutes a day.
Do you have suggestions on what to look for when buying a piano? I have a document with helpful information. Just ask.
Do you have a referral program? Periodically, absolutely!
How do you help non-musical parents/guardians keep up with their child? For children under ten, parents must attend the first lesson and listen to what is being explained-then the parents or guardians are on the same page as the child. I also offer a 15 minute lesson at a discounted price for parents or guardians who wish for further information or do not think their child would perform well if they watched their child's first lesson.
How often do you have opportunities for public performing? At least twice a year. Once for a formal recital in December, and once for community service such as playing at a nursing home, typically in Spring time. Both recitals are completely optional for students to attend. I am also a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers associations. Students have the opportunity to play before Judges to hear positive feed back and constructive criticism from masters of the field. This is also completely optional.
Do you have a favorite composer? I can't choose just one! I love Chopin because of his ability to write stunning melodic lines. I fell under his spell when I played his Nocturne Op. 9 No.2 for my undergrad audition. Debussy is another favorite of mine; his music is full of tonal deviancy which adds color and emotion. This emotion is conveyed so transparently. Debussy is wonderful!
My child has a learning disability, will you still work with them? I would be honored.
I’m an adult, can I take lessons? YES!
Will you teach me to play by ear? I believe that music is a language. Therefore to master a language, or piano, you must be able to speak (play) write (compose) and read. I would be happy to foster your ability to play by ear in addition to learning to read music.
